Penny Polar Bear
Published in Hardcover by Reader's Digest (September, 2000)
Average review score:

This is the best snappy toy book!My baby loves her Daddy to yawn along with Penny Polar bear. We have all these books, except for the snake one, and this one is the best in the series. Penny gets really sleepy and digs a cave for the winter. Other animals hear her yawn and think it's a monster. Penny comes out of the cave with two new baby cubs! All of them yawn and awaken to spring. Very cute polar bear and cubs! One of my 9-month-old's very favorites.

Penrod's pants
Published in Unknown Binding by Macmillan ()
Average review score:

A chuckle for eveyone!Penrod is a most lovable character. In the five short tales that make up this title, the reader relates to the simple ideals of a young Penrod and his older, wiser friend, Griswold. The two are quite a pair as Griswold tries to help Penrod through some common dilemas. When trying to find pants "just like the ones Grandma sent", a child will relate to Penrod's idea of an identical match and Griswold's exasperation in helping him find it. Common courtesy is not always easy, and Penrod has a comical way of being courteous and still getting the last cookie! Children as well as adults will get a chuckle out of these 'life lessons' geared to the young readers. This is a great book to read at storytime, as an animated oral presentation brings it to life!! My kindergartners loved it!!

Pi-Shu: The Little Panda
Published in Board book by Peachtree Publishers (March, 2001)
Average review score:

An Absolute delightThis book is an absolute delight! My kids (3 + 4) read it again and again! It has introduced a wonderful and endangered animal to them in a very accesible way. The pictures are lovely and the story is touching, truthful and informative. Young kids really relate to the Mommy panda caring for her baby.. Of course it is a bit anthropomorphic, as all good children's books are. The author also has a fact page and references for more info! Your little one will LOVE this book!

Pig and Bear
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (September, 1989)
Average review score:

This is a quirky and profound series of stories.I loved this book and I think it appeals to both children and adults. The subtle "morals" of the stories are very relevent in our modern, impersonal world. The wordplay and contemporary language give added appeal to the two protagonists. When Pig and Bear find their friendship tested, they resolve their disagreements in realistic ways. I appreciate the fact that the book doesn't talk down to children. There were two stories that I found especially meaningful; one was about finding a peaceful place to go when you feel vulnerable and the second was about the value of face-to-face communication in comparison to using telephones. I highly recommend this book to people of all ages and I really enjoyed the writer's deft manipulation of the English language.

Ping Ping Panda
Published in Hardcover by Silver Dolphin (September, 2001)
Average review score:

Beautiful and educational book!My 2.5 year old daughter and I have read this book at least once a day since she received it for Christmas and she just loves this book. It is a beautifully illustrated pop-up book that introduces very young children to the wildlife of Asia as it tells the story of little Ping Ping looking for bamboo with the assistance of the friends she meets along the way. Every child who picks up this book at our house has been immediately enchanted with it. When we actually saw the Fairy bluebirds and pandas at the San Diego Zoo recently my daughter was SO excited to see her book come alive. This book has been a wonderful addition to our already BIG toddler/preschooler collection.

Pioneer Bear: Based on a True Story (Step into Reading, Step 2, Grades 1-3)
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (May, 1995)
Average review score:

True Pioneer Story!Teaching about pioneers? This is a great book to enrich the study of pioneer life! A true story that has water color illustrations that give the feel of the period, I highly recommend this book for grades 1-3. Kids love bears, so there is a natural hook right there! Excellent!

Pirate's Parrot
Published in Hardcover by Tricycle Pr (April, 2000)
Average review score:

A very different "read aloud" story with unexpected twists.Jim McFarland illustrates this whimsical story of Captain Cur, a grouch who has just lost his bird. The substitute parrot is a teddy bear - good thing Cur's eyesight is bad. Parents will find this a very different read-aloud choice with unexpected twists.

Plaid Bear and the Rude Rabbit Gang
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (June, 1982)
Average review score:

I grew up reading this book; it is one of the best out thereI grew up reading Plaid Bear and the Rude Rabbit gang, and have to say that it is one of the best books that I have ever read in my life. This book teaches kids how to deal with rude/'bad' people, and why you shouldn't be rude to other people.
The thing about this book, however, is that it's not a preachy kindergarten-ish book, it's an interesting story, illustrated with wonderful, humerous pictures. I highly recommend this book to kids and adults alike!

Please Don't Feed the Bears
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (March, 1992)
Average review score:

Informative and Well-WrittenI love using this book in my classroom. The photographs are magnificent... even my students who are unable to read the print very well were able to learn something about bears just by looking at the photographs. Some of my students who hate reading choose this book again and again because it is so interesting to them. The story really prompts children to think about what they are reading.
This book grabs the attention of the reader from the first page. It continues with explanations of several kinds of bears from different habitats. There is also a vocabulary review section in the back of the book, as well as an index.
This is an excellent non-fiction book that is a wonderful edition to any library.

We Love This BookMy 5 year old loves this book. She thinks the polar bears are cute and silly and wants me to read it to her over and over again. We've had some fun times together with the book. I highly recommend it. She's starting to read it herself now.
